In 2006, Camp Sunshine created Sunshine 2 U, a camp program for children while they are hospitalized. Held at the Children's Hospital at Memorial Health in Savannah and in the Aflac Cancer Centers at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (both Egleston and Scottish Rite campuses), Sunshine 2 U features hospital friendly camp activities like art, sports, scavenger hunts and fishing. Activities are held once a month in the playroom at each hospital and during the two weeks of Summer Camp. All oncology patients - and their siblings - are invited to attend. Campers receive a name tag, t-shirt, hat and a water bottle - just like they would at summer camp! Patients in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit even receive special kits each day that are individually wrapped and sealed in ziploc bags for infection control purposes. Kits can include jewelry projects, art supplies or games. We want all kids to be able to attend camp - and now they can! For additional information, contact Ann Baker at 404.325.7979.
