Mini Me Factory joins campaign supporting Georgia’s children & families coping with cancer

ATLANTA, GA – (November 14, 2023) – Independent agency Fitzco has launched another pro bono campaign for Camp Sunshine, this time partnering with local 3D action-figure creator The Mini Me Factory. The campaign is in support of Camp Sunshine’s annual fundraiser kicking-off on Giving Tuesday, November 28. Founded in 1983, Camp Sunshine provides year-round recreation, education and support programs for children with cancer and their families.

“This year’s campaign passes the mic to four special campers to champion their heroes,” said Sally Hale, executive director of Camp Sunshine. “We wanted to give them the opportunity to thank the heroes in their lives by shining a light on the community that surrounds these kids and their families throughout their cancer journey.”

The “Sunshine Super Team” campaign centers a group of four current Camp Sunshine campers who nominated their everyday heroes – those who have supported and encouraged them through their cancer journey. Those nominated by the campers, including parents, siblings, and child life specialists, received the superhero treatment with the help of the Mini Me Factory. Mini Me Factory’s 3D full body scan photobooth technology helped transform each Sunshine Super Team hero into an exact replica action figure to gift to the four campers so their heroes are always by their side. While the Sunshine Super Team works to empower campers, this campaign is also being used to drive donations to Camp Sunshine, calling others to be a hero by participating in Giving Tuesday and donating to Camp Sunshine’s efforts.

“It’s always cool to see the reactions of people becoming a real-life action figure,” said Simone Atunzu, co-owner of the Mini Me Factory. “When Fitzco and Camp Sunshine approached us about making action figures of the campers’ heroes, it made the whole experience even more special and meaningful to our employees.”

In addition to support from the Mini Me Factory to create the action figures, Mattel, as part of their Play it Forward initiatives, donated 250 dolls and action figures to include in special “Hero Kits” wrapped by Fitzco staff for other Camp Sunshine junior campers, ensuring all campers are included and have their own hero to keep them company. As a bonus, 50 of the 250 “Hero Kits” were gifted to patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, including a sticker sheet with custom Sunshine Super Team hero illustrations and an insert card detailing the bravery of the campers who caught the Sunshine Super Team’s attention.

Last year for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Fitzco created “Sunshine Online” on Roblox, the first childhood cancer non-profit campaign launched on the gaming platform, with an interactive environment replica of Camp Sunshine’s campgrounds intended to foster community among kids battling cancer while they are isolated or unable to attend camp in person.

Within the United States, childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease past infancy among children. It is estimated that in 2023, 15,190 children ages 0-19 will be diagnosed with cancer (cancer.gov).
