Get Involved -- You Can Help Make a Difference!

Camp Sunshine staff consists almost entirely of volunteers who donate their time and talent to create unforgettable memories for children with cancer and their families. Our campers' parents place tremendous trust in us to find, select, and train the best individuals to whom they can entrust their children. We do not take our parents' trust lightly. 

Hundreds of dedicated volunteers participate in our programs each year. Many return again and again. They help with summer camp, family camp weekends, teen retreats, Camp Sunshine House programs, sibling camp weekends, and special events throughout the year. All of our programs are dependent on a willing community of volunteers. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Camp Sunshine!

Summer Camp Volunteer Information:

Our Summer Camp volunteer application is open from January 15th -March 1st each year. Please submit an application by March 1st to be considered as a potential summer camp volunteer.

Summer Camp Volunteer Job Description

Application Submission Process: 

  1. Complete the New Volunteer Application. Please note that the volunteer acceptance process will include a criminal background check.  

  2. Provide the Personal Reference Form to the three individuals you list as references on your application. Each reference should return his/her completed form as soon as possible. No family members please.

  3. Once your completed application and all three personal reference forms have been received, you will be contacted to schedule an interview in March.

  4. All volunteers must meet these minimum immunization requirements: MMR, Td/Tdap within the past 10 years, Varicella, TB questionnaire, Shingles if over 60 years old, Pneumococcal if over 65 years old.

It is important to understand that if you are selected as a volunteer for Camp Sunshine's Summer Camp, you will be expected to volunteer for an entire session of Summer Camp; each session is 6 days in length and it is an overnight camp. Those accepted as a Summer camp volunteer must attend an in person volunteer training session in June.

Once you have successfully volunteered at Summer Camp, you are then eligible to volunteer at other Camp Sunshine recreational and house programs throughout the year. Please contact Summer Camp Director at 404-325-7979 if you have any questions about this process. 

Non-Summer Camp Volunteer Information:

As we safely reopen Camp Sunshine programs, we are resuming the application process for the following non-summer camp volunteer positions:

 

Family Camp Weekend Volunteer:

Not able to commit to an entire week of summer camp?  Not a problem!  Camp Sunshine is now accepting applications for new volunteers with prior experience in special needs camping or are part of the pediatric oncology heath care teams at CHOA or Memorial (Savannah) to participate in our Family Camp Weekend programs.  These take place four times a year (2 in the spring and 2 in the fall) and bring families of children and teens with cancer together for a weekend away to relax, have fun, and share stories in order to gain support from one another. 

Review the process and click the link below to complete your application.  Once your completed application is received, you will be scheduled for an interview.  Just like our summer camp volunteers, if accepted you will be required to complete an annual background check and training prior to your arrival at your Family Camp Weekend.  Applications must be received no later than 3 weeks before each program to ensure proper processing and training. 

2024 Family Camp Dates:

Spring Family Camp I: April - 5-7 (applications due March 15)

Spring Family Camp II: April 12-14

Fall Family Camp I: October – 11 - 13 (applications due September 20)

Fall Family Camp II: October 18 – 20

*Interested in volunteering for our summer camp program as well?  New family camp volunteers must complete the new summer camp volunteer application in addition this process to be considered for one of the summer sessions.  This process opens annually on January 15th and closes on March 1st.
